The decision to hold a performance art festival stems from a fundamental view concerning the place of art in society and the artist’s ability to act, react and interact in virtually any given situation. Implying physical presence of the artist and typified by an interaction with reality, performance art in particular is regarded as the frontier of artistic practice. The title BLURRR alludes precisely to this aspect.

In 1997 The Center for Contemporary Art initiated BLURRR - the First International Biennial of Performing Arts in Israel. Since than, every two years, around 20 artists from all over the world gather together to perform in various places and sites around the city.

BLURRR biennials took place in locations that allowed the artists not only to perform in unique conditions, but to literally “chose” the public he or she wants to interact with – that is, either performing in places and hours that only the informed crowd would come to, or appealing to an audience that would turn out for other reasons.
