About The Work

Like the bulk of Tamar Raban's works, She has a Headache in Her Stomach was based on an autobiographical incident. The work was a narrative hybrid: a cross between an experience Raban had had in Paris - meeting a Palestinian artist who taught her an Arab children's song, and a toy she purchased in Berlin. Raban employed video and slide projectors, playback and live sound to create a rich narrative tapestry, superimposing different layers of time and space.
