Performance | out-of-office: Yossi Berg and Oded Graf

May 28, 2025

May 29, 2025

Initiated by Guy Bernard Reichmann, “out-of-office” is a series of events presented in the Marc Schimmel Multipurpose Gallery. Focused on time-based practices such as video, dance, and performance, and in line with the multidisciplinary mission of the Center, “out-of-office” was conceived to nurture the domestic creative scene.

In this session, choreographers Yossi Berg and Oded Graf present 4 Fantasies and a Monkey – a dance performance inspired by Peter Brook’s book The Empty Space (1968). Following some of the ideas presented in the book, Berg and Graf imagine the empty space as a playground divided into the following parts: subconscious; swinging through associative fragments of identity; swinging through associative fragments of identity; raiding; and wearing masks. Following these premises, 4 Fantasies and a Monkey appears as a night walk between realism and fantasy, in which we explore multiplicity and our embodiment; we imagine and create worlds; we remind ourselves of the possibility to escape the grayness of everyday life.

4 Fantasies and a Monkey is an original piece choreographed and directed by Yossi Berg and Oded Graf; performed by Ziv Besor, Amit Zaretsky, Oded Graf, and Tamar Kish; costumes by Ilanit Shamia; musical advice by Binya Reches; lights by Yoav Barel; artistic consultation by Rachel Erdos. The piece is an originl production of MASH Dance House, Jerusalem; Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts; the Yehoshua Rabinovich Tel Aviv Foundation for the Arts; the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo – Art Division; and the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
