In the frame of VideoZone V – The Fifth International Video Art Biennial, the CCA will present the exhibition Building Memory featuring recent works by Miroslaw Balka, Yael Bartana, Deimantas Narkevičius and Marcel Odenbach.
The artworks in Building Memory explore different aspects of 60 years of Europe’s most problematic and contested history from a focus on architecture, monuments, and community and geo-political perspectives in Poland, the former-DDR (East Germany), and with reference to the foundation of the state of Israel.
The project is a collaboration between The Contemporary Art Centre (CAC), Vilnius (Lithuania); Hartware MedienKunstVerein (HMKV), Dortmund (Germany); Muzeum Sztuki, Łodz (Poland), The Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv (Israel) and the Goethe Institut, Warsaw (Poland).
The Building Memory curatorium is made-up of: Inke Arns, Dortmund; Elisabetta Fabrizi, London; Maria Morzuch, Łodz; Marcel Odenbach, Cologne; Simon Rees, Vilnius; Diana Shoef, Tel Aviv and Martin Waelde, Warsaw.
Besides, the CCA will present also 2 recent works by the acclaimed American artist Kara Walker and the Israeli artist Dor Geuz relating to the same issue of “Memory” from another perspective.
