Internal Tourism

Internal Tourism brings together the work of three young female Israeli artists: Hilla Ben Ari; Maya Lerman; Shunit Kushnir who work in different media. The link between the works is associative and open; the title may serve as a different metaphor for the process taken by each of the artists. All three works revolve around obsessive practice, deconstruction, reworking, and re-creation based on appropriation of familiar materials or images. The works signify passion for another place, for beauty that is “larger than life,” a yearning for identification – which usually remain unattainable. Art provides a space in which to suspend the fantasy a second before it dissolves, to indicate the missing pathos and magic in an endless attempt to fill an empty space with meaning.
