This book launch will feature contributions by artists Ruth Anderwald + Leonhard Grond, who will introduce the book and their eponymous artistic research project, Sergio Edelsztein, founder and former Director of the Center, and academic Maya M. Shmailov. In 2016 Edelsztein co-hosted a three-day event at the Center, “Navigating the Unknown – Fears and Pleasures of Dizziness,” where Shmailov participated with a lecture; during the launch, Shmailov will read an excerpt from her contribution to the book, an essay to the reader connecting her expertise on border-crossing personalities with the potentially dizzying experience of works of art. Dizziness—A Resource is a cross-disciplinary reader presenting the findings of the eponymous long-term artistic research project initiated by Ruth Anderwald + Leonhard Grond, co-edited with their collaborator, philosopher Karoline Feyertag and featuring contributions by the editors, Mathias Benedek, Oliver A. I. Botar, Katrin Bucher Trantow, Davide Deriu, Sarah Kolb, François Jullien, Rebekka Ladewig, Jarosław Lubiak, Alice Pechriggl, Oliver Ressler, Maya M. Shmailov, Maria Spindler, Marcus Steinweg. Dizziness—A Resource traces dizziness not only as a phenomenon of physiological, emotional, and cognitive processes but highlights the transversal nature of the phenomenon. Scrutinizing individual as well as collective states of unbalance, confusion, and disorientation, the programmatic claim of the editors is that these states of dizziness can be regarded as a resource – at least with regard to artistic research, philosophy, and current socio-political landscapes.
The event will be held in English.
