Please join us for the launch of The Synagogue of Ancient Ostia – 60 years from its discovery, 20 years of Arte in Memoria, published this year by Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica and Associazione Arte in Memoria, following the conference held in Ostia (Italy) in 2021. Edited by archeologist Alessandro D’Alessio, Director of Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica, and art historian and curator Adachiara Zevi, President of Associazione Arte in Memoria, the book includes two parts; the first one is dedicated to ancient Ostia’s synagogue – the oldest synagogue of the diaspora – its discovery, restoration, conservation, chronology, historicization and contextualization; the second part is devoted to the site-specific interventions conceived by 53 contemporary artists – such as Daniel Buren, Lawrence Weiner, Susan Philipsz, Maria Eichhorn and Michael Rakowitz – and presented over 11 editions of Arte in Memoria, from 2002 to 2023. The presentation will focus on the second part, with interventions by Zevi and artist Gal Weinstein, who participated in Arte in Memoria 1. Nicola Trezzi, Director and Curator of CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo will host the event and artist Sigalit Landau – who participated in Arte in Memoria 7 – will be in attendance.
The event will be held in English in collaboration with Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Tel Aviv.
