Please join us for a conversation between musician, writer, and radio personality Sharon Kantor and writer, director, and Haaretz columnist Nissan Shor. This event is part of the public program of The Name of This Band Is The Art (Tel Aviv-Yafo), a project by Ari Benjamin Meyers curated by Arnon Ben-Dror, currently on view at CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo.

During the conversation Kantor and Shor will guide us through their personal musical paths: from the immense role music played in their formative years – the 1980s and 1990s – to the commercialized and propagandist turn taken by the music industry in their adulthood. Following this memory lane, they will reflect on a possible future where algorithms will write songs, and ask: What function will music serve in our lives then?

This event is meant to contextualize The Name of This Band Is The Art (Tel Aviv-Yafo), in which the main element is a rock band whose members – Din Bar, Rachel Levian, Rony Shefer and Gaya Wajsman – were selected through an open call directed at art students and recent graduates. Every day during the entire duration of the project, the band develops and rehearses a set of ten songs – based on a songbook with contributions by Kantor and Shor among others – leading up to their first and last concert on March 2 at 9:00pm, the closing night of the exhibition after which the band will break up.

The event will be held in Hebrew and it is free of charge. Space is limited; please RSVP via email to info@cca.org.il.
