Led by artist and CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo Office Manager Guy Bernard Reichmann, alongside artist and Content Manager Mona Benyamin, “out-of-office” is a series of events to be presented in the Marc Schimmel Multipurpose Gallery. Focused on time-based practices such as video, dance, and performance, and in line with the multidisciplinary mission of the Center, “o-o-o” was conceived as a way to nurture the domestic scene.

Presented as part of the special edition of “o-o-o,” in parallel with the exhibition “On a Silver Platter: Artists to Benefit CCA,” Night World (2023) is a performative encounter between choreographer and dancer Kim Teitelbaum, and musician and vocal artist Zohar Shafir. The main prompt of the encounter is Kathy Acker’s “The Persian Poems” (1984) – an excerpt from her novel Blood and Guts in High School. In this excerpt the reader is introduced to Janey – a young woman confined in a small room by a Persian slave trader named Ali – who teaches herself Persian and writes poems while in captivity. Through these poems the reader becomes familiar with her emotional and mental state. Furthermore, it seeks to bring the character of Janey to life via media other than dance – like text, declamation, movement, and video – exploring performative displays of trauma and disrupted identities.

Night World is performance by Kim Teitelbaum with sound by Zohar Shafir; dramaturgy by Ido Feder; video by Sharon Fadida; costumes and set by Tamar Ben Canaan, Eran Shani, and Kim Teitelbaum; lighting by Oded Komemi; produced by Sigal Dahan. The piece was premiered at Diver Festival/Tights Conference 2023 and is supported by Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts and the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, Tel Aviv.
