Please join curator Raphael Gygax for a presentation on the artistic practice of Xanti Schawinsky (*1904, Basel; †1979, Locarno, Switzerland), whose work Sphera (Sp 86) (1969) is featured in ״Radu Comșa: inter-versions,״ currently on view at CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo. During the presentation, Gygax will explore the multifaceted work of Schawinsky, an artist, teacher – at both the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College – and set designer. Additionally, Gygax, who curated Schawinsky’s retrospectives at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich in 2015 and at MUDAM in Luxembourg in 2025 (traveling in Spring 2025 to Kunsthalle Bielefeld) will discuss Schawinsky’s itinerant life. Schawinsky created works that transcended disciplinary boundaries, moving from Basel to Zurich, Cologne to Berlin, Weimar to Dessau, Milan to North Carolina, New York to Oggebbio.

The event will be held in English. It is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Israel, Aviv Association for Art, and is part of the SWISS POP UP series.
