FORGIVE AND FORGET BY MICHAL HELFMAN
Created by Michal Helfman on the occasion of “Change,” her solo exhibition at CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo in 2013, this edition associates the famous motto “forgive and forget” – which has been used in numerous occasions and with different meanings, at times opposite to each other – and the symbolic figure of the rock. With Forgive and Forget, the artist takes the idiomatic phrase “set in stone” to its most concrete embodiment, echoing the power of words and their capability, despite their ‘granitic’ nature, to be molded, redefined, deconstructed and ultimately renewed. Such possibility mirrors the way Helfman approaches the history of humankind and her interpretation of the role of the artist, a special agent who had come to terms with past, present and future realities through new figures (or speech).
