Keren Cytter (*1977, Tel Aviv-Yafo; lives and works in New York) is a unique voice in the Israeli and international art scene; her very particular non-narrative style cuts across video, poetry, prose, drawing, and dramaturgy. A prolific creator, she has made more than fifty video works, written several novels and even an opera libretto, started a dance theatre group called Dance International Europe Now (D.I.E. Now) and an organization called Art Projects Era (A.P.E.).

“Sponsored Content,” her exhibition at CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo and her first institutional solo presentation in Israel, carries a deep autobiographical tone, although, as always in her work, this very tone is hinted and suggested, avoiding any direct references. For this exhibition, which is articulated in two galleries, the artist has conceived an immersive display that invites the viewer to have an unusual physical encounter with her work, generating a space for reflection, bringing up all the different life stages, from childhood to teenage, from adulthood to middle age, till old age. Complementing the installation on the ground floor is a full retrospective of her video work, including two premieres – Des Trous and Killing Time Machine (both 2018) – categorized according to its genre (video works, documentary, loop, video series, and feature films) and presented at the Marc Schimmel Multipurpose Gallery on the second floor.

“Keren Cytter: Sponsored Content” is curated by Nicola Trezzi.

The exhibition is accompanied by printed matter in Hebrew, Arabic and English, an artist talk in English on May 2, lectures by Talia Heiman in English on May 15, and by Dan Shadur in Hebrew on May 15, a curator tour in English on June 22 and a lecture by Letizia Ragaglia in English on June 27.

Following “Keren Cytter: Mature Content” – its sister-presentation at Museion in Bolzano (Italy) – “Keren Cytter: Sponsored Content” is supported by Susanna Perini and Biasa, Sotheby’s Israel and Outset Contemporary Art Fund; additional support has been provided by Noga Gallery of Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, Pilar Corrias, London, Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan, and Galerie Nagel Draxler, Cologne / Berlin. Special thanks to Istituto Italiano di Cultura Tel Aviv.
