CCA – Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv and HaZira Performance Art Arena are proud to co-present untitled, a new performance piece by Israeli choreographer May Zarhy. Through a free interpretation of the work of American Minimal artist Dan Flavin, known for his use of fluorescent light, untitled continues Zarhy’s exploration of the possible relations between body and sound, and between choreography and visual arts.

Through her collaboration with musician Elad Bardes, the artists create a resonating space of images and sound, where the two elements are in continuous juxtaposition, moving between states of immersion, diversion, and at times audiovisual clashes. The work attempts to break the language barriers, diving into the sensual and physical realms. Based on a series of recordings of bodily activities, that are sampled and recomposed in real-time, and through an aesthetic proposition, untitled can be considered a “live sculpture” or a “3D painting”. Such experience, which is truly physical, triggers the viewer’s senses and demands full presence and sensitivity, making the audience becoming an imminent part of the ritual. Through this structure, untitled raises questions regarding the mystical, the physical and the unknown.
