Yael Bartana: Short Memory

Yael Bartana’s recent works represent a tour de force that not only takes her art in a different cinematic direction in terms of form, technique, and narrative, but also offers the spectator a new, extended reading of her former pieces. In this show Yael Bartans will present a new version to her work Summer Camp (previously shown at the last Documenta, Kassel in 2007). This version will be screened back to back with Yael’s version of Helmar Lerski’s film Awodah (Work) from 1935, both with the same soundtrack. Besides the Israeli premier of Yael’s last film Mary Koszmary will be shown as well, together with Wild Seeds (2005) and A Declaration (2006). In the Autumn of 2008 as solo show of Yael will be exhibited at PS1 in NY curated by Klaus Biesenbach.  A comprehensive catalogue will be published for those 2 occasions with articles by: Sergio Edelsztein, Ariella Azouly, Joanna Mytkowska, Galit Eilat and an interview of Klaus Biesenbach with Yael Bartana.

Curator: Sergio Edelsztein
